Junior Technical Project Manager

Modular Digital seeks Junior Technical Project Manager.

Modular is a small, friendly digital team.

We are lucky enough to boast the nicest portfolio of clients, EVER.

Currently we support a portfolio of around 20 organisations with website design and build, website iterations and support contracts. A mix of charities, membership orgs, publishers and SMEs within conservation, sustainability, international development, arts and tourism, academia and history.

Over the last year we’ve been focusing on delivering amazing customer service shored up by awesome project management.  We’ve worked hard to develop great systems and implement robust processes, so that our clients experience seamless project delivery, every time.

We love the clients we work with and want to find more like them.

As we continue to grow, we want to ensure our high levels of customer service are maintained.

What we need

Our team currently has a gap for a Junior Technical Project Manager to come on board and get stuck in behind the scenes on the delivery of digital products – mainly websites and apps.

You’ll be the key person for onboarding existing client sites into our development system and getting to grips with their configuration. Launching new websites and looking after them well thereafter.

Day to day you will be responsible for the technical delivery on all our projects, tasks and support tickets. As a result, the bulk of your time will be spent logged into our core communications platforms managing and facilitating discussions with our developers for a wide range of projects, large and small and ensuring all deliverables  are successfully completed.

Whilst a great deal of your role will be centred around communications with our internal team, supported by the Strategic Director you will also need to communicate confidently via phone, video and face to face, with both our clients and external development teams throughout the project lifecycle to clarify briefs, manage resources, discuss ticket queries and solutions.

The pace can be fast and greatly accelerates during the UAT, deployment and Warranty phases of the build, often with multiple builds reaching these phases at the same time. So you’ll need to be able to balance planned project tasks and priorities with responsive, time critical support tasks in an ever changing project landscape.

As new projects are commissioned, you will contribute to the creation of key documents; Scopes of Work, Supplier Briefs, Technical Specifications and estimates.

Who we want

We don’t expect you to be a developer, but you do need to be naturally inquisitive and technically minded, passionate about solving problems and really get a kick out of taking ownership and seeing a project through from start to finish.

No doubt you are plugged in to new trends and developments across the industry and are fascinated by the evolving technology.

You’re keen to understand how things work and always ready to head off and find the answers if you don’t know. You’re always ‘looking under the hood’ the first thing you do when getting a new device or platform is to head straight to the settings to see what you can tinker with and configure to your liking.

You may be called upon to act as a conduit, translating developer-speak for colleagues and clients alike, making sure everyone understands the complexities even if they don’t speak the lingo.

As a problem solver at heart, when projects hit blocks and challenges, you will naturally embrace them head on. It goes without saying, a can-do attitude is essential. Conversely you know when something is beyond you and you need to get additional insight from someone else

Systems you will become familiar with include: Basecamp. Monday, Slack, Assembla, Trello, Harvest, Gdocs, Gmail and Zoom. You are comfortable dipping in and out of a number of platforms simultaneously and taking on new ones.

Ideally you’ll understand the key elements of a digital build from hosting to deployment and know your CRM from your CMS. Knowledge and experience of WordPress specifically, or similar open source platforms in general, would be a massive bonus

Personal fulfilment comes from doing a good job and constantly improving upon your skills and knowledge.

A lot of the job may be dull and repetitive. That is ok, you get some processes that are grunty, but an essential part of the delivery and that the bigger stuff (researching cool new tech, working with awesome clients) compensates for that.

Our Culture

Our goal is to work with clients we love and for you to love what you do.

We work hard to build a culture that is open, inclusive, supportive and flexible.

Titles don’t really matter to us, but what you do does.

Productivity, energy and focus all rank higher than time spent at your desk.

We work remotely but regularly catch up face to face for meetings and as a team.

We’re a small team, so it is a bit warts and all. Strengths shine, so do our weaknesses.

We’re not perfect, but we’re always working to make it better.

What’s on offer?

We’re pitching the salary at around £25-£28K for working 9 days out of ten.

Basically, you get every other Friday off. Let’s call it a 9in10 fortnight. When we are bigger, we hope to extend this further with a higher ratio of Friday’s off.

Work life balance is super important to us. For this role, we offer flexible working hours. So long as you are available for our core hours 9.30am – 4.00pm  and when needed for key meetings, we are happy to offer working hours that work for you.

You get 35 days annual leave + bank holiday as contracted leave.

When possible, we offer additional Christmas holiday leave (approx. 4 days) which varies depending on when Christmas falls.

Next steps

If you are up for the challenge, please apply via email to emma@thisismodular.co.uk with an overview of your salary expectations, yourself and what you can bring to the table, why you want to join our team, and your relevant experience.

Don’t worry about your CV – it is just a job timeline. I can take a quick peek at your Linkedin profile to get that info. I’ll get in touch to have an initial chat, and then if there is mutual interest, set up a face to face meeting.

Aiming to close the job on Friday 22nd July 2022.

Look forward to hearing from you.
