Website design and WordPress CMS for zombie game developers

The Indie Stone, an independent PC game development company approached Modular to design and build a unique website experience that reflected their game’s personality.

Project Zomboid

Overview

Through Modular’s connections to PC gamer and Edge Online we were referred to Indie Stone to visualise a new website.

Goal

To keep the blog format of the existing website but to create a new visual style, sympathetic to the genre which would appeal to the game’s primary audience. To give them the ability to easily manage the content themselves and to find a novel way of integrating twitter feeds into the site.

Our Approach

By taking inspiration from the game’s rich concept art and source material, we developed a nonlinear cascade of panels akin to the graphic novels from which the game takes much of its inspiration. We extended this new visual language throughout the site, creating an online space that represented an extension of the game’s existing visual style.

Modular provided the following services:

Discovery and Planning

  • Stakeholder Workshops

Design

  • User Experience Design
  • Visual Website Design
  • Visual User Interface Design

Implementation

Outcome

The unique website was overwhelmingly well received by the game’s already sizeable fan base, providing users with an online space visually connected to the game.
