StarIDAZ
AI Enabled, Human First Global Platform.

Project Overview
The STAR IDAZ International Research Consortium, backed by the Horizon Science Foundation and major entities like the European Commission, operates at the intersection of veterinary science, food security, and international development.
The organisation serves as the central information node connecting laboratory scientists with global donors. Their primary mission is to accelerate the delivery of disease control tools, particularly vaccines for livestock, by identifying knowledge gaps and directing international capital strategically.
By fostering collaboration and preventing duplicated research efforts, STAR IDAZ aims to reduce livestock losses, support sustainable global agriculture, and alleviate poverty.
Modular took an approach that prioritised understanding our internal and external audiences, and helped us sense check our assumptions by qualifying them against user needs. This human first rather than tech first approach delivered a platform that we can now manage ourselves. The target audience now find the information that is relevant to them and have widely commented on the improvements that have been made.

The Challenges:

As global scientific initiatives expand, managing vast information streams requires a highly robust technical foundation. The legacy digital platform managed separate data streams where international events, scientific news, research roadmaps, and funder profiles existed in entirely isolated databases.
Furthermore, internal administrators were burdened by the manual construction of complex scientific flow diagrams. A literal translation of this legacy software pattern into a new interface would have perpetuated a severe operational bottleneck.
Relying on off-the-shelf software to handle these distinct, unlinked data streams would impose a massive workflow penalty on the internal team, binding the organisation to ongoing technical debt and delaying the publication of critical international research roadmaps.

The Impact:
TEXT TITLE HERE
Scientific stakeholders and global funders operate in high-stakes environments characterised by intense documentation fatigue and fragmented data sources. Through comprehensive discovery workshops and qualitative interviews, it became evident that these specialists do not interact with information in a linear fashion. Instead, they require data filtered through specific priority topics, such as African Swine Fever.
Standard consumer design patterns, which often scatter information across multiple pages, cause operational drag for these experts. They require maximum data density compiled under a single topic view to prevent fragmented research patterns.
A standard approach would lead to user fatigue, proving the absolute necessity of an Authentic User Experience methodology that aggregates working group members, active research projects, and current scientific roadmaps onto a unified dashboard.
